The Pink Panther Clique: Our Mistakes Don't Define Us!- Part Two
by: Jamila T. Davis
This post is dedicated to my prison sister, Sunshine Smith-Williams ( @sunnymoneyqueens
). I met her back in 2014 when we were housed together at the Danbury Federal Prison Camp in Connecticut. I remember the day we met like yesterday! We instantly meshed! When I found out Sunshine was from my hood, Jamaica-Queens, New York, we sat up and talked for hours, discovering we knew a lot of the same people. I was blown away to find out that my mother was her 7th grade English teacher. Yeah you can't make this up! lol.
What I liked about Sunshine was here drive. She said she was going to use her time wisely behind bars and she did just that! While incarcerated Sunshine wrote "The 10 Commandments of a Boss Chick." It is an inspiring self-help manual for women on the rise. When she was released from prison, Sunshine amazed us! She took the message in her book and began to share it with women across the country, becoming a best selling author. She also helped to jump start our movement, creating awareness about the epidemic of women in prison.
Not only is she apart of several successful business ventures, including her own real estate firm, Sunshine always manages to find a way to give back to those less fortunate. This past year she opened up a homeless shelter in New York, providing housing to hundreds of disadvantaged men and women. She is also a co-writer in the upcoming urban fiction book series "Pink Panther Clique," with @wahidaclark
So today I want to give a shout out to my sister @sunnymoneyqueens
, I just want you to know I appreciate your dedication to the cause. You have led by example and your dedication does not go unnoticed. Sis you have inspired me in unimaginable ways. Stay focused and continue to be you. Love you! xoxo
