. --- Crap. . The moment last night where my quad rehab took a serious sideways jolt, during my practice of sprint starts (typically my last one too!). . Two clips. One at full speed, one in slow motion. I can pinpoint the exact moment when I start saying 'crap' in my head... it's the moment where my right quad pushes away from the ground for the first time. . Crap. . It's a setback, but I will keep doing what I am doing. Working hard, resting appropriately, eating right and sleeping well. Can't push too far with the right quad being tight still but I'm feeling very pleased with the actual strength I'm able to drive through my core and lower back these days. . --- Deadlift. New personal best. . 125kg. 4 reps. 3 sets. 5 days after a torn quad. . Proud of this. . I worked all week to recover. I ate right. I slept well. I rested when I needed to and I walked on it when I could. I worked damn hard and gave myself the best chance to get back to my best. . Then I surpassed my best. . Form needs work after being out of the loop, but it'll come. . --- What's your routine? And how can you set it up to help you achieve your maximum output? . I've figured out what works for me, in order to deliver my best... . 1. I love an early morning workout to set me up for the day. Failing that, a late evening or a Sunday afternoon where I don't have to rush. . 2. I have a coffee when I wake up, normally around 45 minutes before my workout. . 3. I drink a solid pre-workout 30 minutes before my workout (currently using Dynamo by @proteindynamix... if it's good enough for the world's strongest man it's good enough for me!). . 4. I wear compression socks (or a good tight-fitting pair of football socks) around my ankles which makes me feel planted when I'm in the gym. . 5. I strap my hands and wrists thoroughly as I view these as 'weak parts' of my body that need the support and will take the brunt of an injury (old habit from years of wearing goalkeeper gloves as a footballer!). Currently using @nordiclifting gloves which offer great wrist support. . 6. I drink water throughout my workout. Constantly. Because I sweat so much! . 7. I take a protein/recovery shake or eat a high-protein meal within 30-45 mins of finishing my workout. As I'm bulking at the moment I use Informed Mass by @bulkpowders_uk which includes creatine, but when not bulking I will normally take a leaner protein shake with creatine separately and some BCAAs (to aid recovery and avoid the dreaded 'day after' muscle pain!). . . --- A day of two halves today! Tore my quad this morning, 15 minutes into making my debut as goalkeeper for a new football team... however I had to play on for the remaining 75 minutes due to no substitutes and we ended up with a 7-0 win! . After a couple of hours icing and elevating the leg, I was straight back down to the gym. Some light work on the stairmaster and spin bike to avoid the muscle seizing up, and then a bit of work on the free weights and battle ropes. .
