RITUAL 3 // Decisions. Just make one, quick! This particular post is very timely on the eve of my birthday and the Libra new moon. Libras are famous for their indecisive nature. Sorry not sorry. ✨ It can take me hours, months if not years to finally come to a decision about something. My personality seeks out balance and justice so in order to do that I have to thoroughly weigh up the pros and cons of everything. Don't ever expect a straight-up yes or no from me. It's just not part of who I am, much to the displeasure of everyone around me including myself. ✨ When I FINALLY make a decision (often by the help of mediation like the one above) I feel instantly at rest. ✨ The quicker you can make a decision the less worry or anxiety you will have. ✨ Recently I read that 'making decisions includes creating intentions and setting goals — all three are part of the same neural circuitry and engage the prefrontal cortex in a positive way, reducing worry and anxiety. Making decisions also helps overcome striatum activity, which usually pulls you toward negative impulses and routines. Finally, making decisions changes your perception of the world — finding solutions to your problems and calming the limbic system.' Sounds complicated, I know. ✨ Basically, making decisions can be super hard. Whilst you ponder, it causes stress, overwhelms that muscle in our head and makes us feel out of control. I know I'm not the only one that suffers, am I?! Especially if You're trying to decide whether you should wash your hair or get another day out of it. That plagues me most days. ✨ Making a decision makes you feel good and your brain feels in control. Deciding also boosts pleasure and thus increases rewarding dopamine activity. So contribute to your happiness by making more decisions. Quicker. ✨ Neuroscience researcher Korb states, "We don’t just choose the things we like; we also like the things we choose."

From earlier today. A lack of work (my week off) seems to have helped in keeping my mind calm and less stressed. That's not to say I'm not anxious. There are moments. But they are fleeting. It's an odd sensation to be so calm in comparison to just a week ago. I worry that I'm not really calm at all, that my mind is a mess and by burying my head in cleaning out my room I'm just pushing these feelings to the side. I've tried to feel more confident, or at least try to believe I am. But that, like cutting out the thoughts that bring me down, is hard to do. I just have to keep going I suppose. I have another counselling session on Friday.
