So I had an awesome day off!! Visited two of my favorite people in the entire #world
and got a quick outdoor #workout
in on the trail near their condo!! I'm sure I've covered this before, but let's name a few reasons why the #pullup
is the king of #calisthenics.
1) It recruits some of the largest and most important #muscle
groups in the posterior chain effectively.
2) Instead of compressing the human spine (as gravity, atmospheric pressure, and many frequently practiced movements and exercises do) the deadhang start position of a proper pullup effectively allows the spine to decompress.
3) It builds functional pulling strength in a society and fitness population that all too often gets hung up in repetitive movement patterns (pushing, curling, texting, driving, sitting at a desk) which close off the upper body and create the shoulders-hunched “desk posture" that you often see in aspiring bodybuilders and desk workers alike.
4. It is, in my opinion, the single greatest way to effectively and safely build upper body #strength,
especially when complimented with its reciprocal movement, the overhead press, and performed under the guidance of a qualified strength coach or trainer.
I finish up pretty much every strength-building workout with a #superset.
I also start a lot of them in this fashion.
