Sooo, it’s almost December. The house smells like Christmas because I made some #zinfandel cranberry sauce. I’ve got a turkey brining in the fridge for #Thanksgiving dinner and just toasted bread for the stuffing waffles I make every year... aaaand the air conditioning has been running non-stop all day because it hit 90+ degrees today. Go home, #SoCal, you’re drunk! Can’t wait to switch residency back to someplace that actually recognizes that there are four seasons (even if they all come in one day) 😂😂😂 In the meantime I’ll just hang here, “glistening,” and gazing at this pic from #WolfCreek Pass in southern #Colorado where I was six months ago today 😱 #PLP2017

Wolf Creek [2005] - DIRECTOR: Greg McLean CAST: John Jarratt, Nathan Phillips RUNNING TIME: 106 mins CLASSIFICATION: R18+ - PLOT SUMMARY: Three backpackers travelling through the Australian outback are pursued by a sadistic pig hunter with a severe distaste for tourists. - REVIEW: Being Australian, I do admire our cinema scene and do my best to support what we have to offer; but unfortunately, our horror status is patchy at best. Wolf Creek however was a game changer and something that put Australian cinema, horror or not, back on the map. The controversy surrounding this film upon its release was diabolical and the content had people talking and talking aplenty. The fun part is that while the first half of the film plays out like a genuine advertisement/invite to the Australian outback, the second half plays out like a sinister warning to tourists and backpackers alike that you are most certainly not welcome. John Jarratt as the now iconic Mick Taylor is a genuinely distressing portrait of a man hell bent on keeping his country to himself. He acts as a protector of Australian culture and directs deadly attention to anybody from an outside nation, whether they’re harmless or not. He’s piggish, unreasonable and grotesque beyond belief. The violence he inflicts on his victims is realistic and squeamish and the foul intentions he divulges to his victims in their final moments are pretty full on by anyone’s standards. The groundwork that goes into making Mick a twisted combination of relatively likable & pure evil is not something that happened by coincidence, but a rather a complex character portrayal that Jarrett admitted made him feel sick and uneasy to play. The ‘tourists’ in question are really quite lovable and their gentle and free spirited nature makes the contrast of their predicament all the more disturbing. If you’re not phased by slow burning set ups and a movie that believes its cinematography is just as important as its moments of terror, then this is a truly masterful slice of cinema. The film also spawned a sequel and a well-received TV series. Did you love Wolf Creek? What’s your favourite Aussie horror? - SCORE: 7.1/10 REWATCHABILITY: 5/10
