Happy Thursday ✨ . Have you read The Girl With All The Gifts?... if not, then add it to your 2018 reading list! . It was such a beautiful read... I know a few people have been put off because it's technically a zombie story... but it's not really. Yes, it features zombies but it isn't a typical zombie fest and the focus is more on the relationships and growth of a small group of brilliantly written characters!! This book puts you through it emotionally... but ultimately I felt warm and fuzzy when it was over ☺️ . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . I have the rest of the week off 🙌🙌 and I'm off to go do some shopping today which would be good but... I need to find something to wear for my works Xmas party in a few weeks time 😭😭😭 I HATE CLOTHES SHOPPING!! It's never easy!! . . Have a lovely Thursday and to those of you who celebrate it... HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃♥️ . . . . . . . . . . . #grimdragon - thankful... I'm thankful great books like this exist!! #circleofbookishfriends - thank you to #bookstagram without your recommendations I would never have found this book (and a billion other great ones) ♥️ . #books #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bibliophile #bookish #book #booknerd #booksofinstagram #epicreads #igreads #wildbonbonreviews #thegirlwithallthegifts #bookreview #a_sill_life #moodofmywindow
Recipe for a Great Book: . Mix one man who doesn't speak with one baby and one goat. Remove humanity and add demon-like things. Bake for 300+ pages and ENJOY! . . Ok so the recipe sounds a little weird... but it works!! The book is brilliant... it's a bit like reading a painting if that makes sense? Having the lead character not speak is challenging... it surprised me how reliant I am as a reader on the lead asking the questions that I need answering... but obviously that didn't happen in this book so you have to rely on snippets of one sided conversations that happen around him... it is hard work but oddly it works really well and makes for a really unusual and refreshing read! . The goat and the baby act like every normal goat and baby I've ever known... they are a really welcome tether to normality. Everything is weird in this world... everything is tainted by what came through the breach... and so you'll be surprised how much you find yourself clinging to the baby and the goat! . I almost gave this 5 stars... but docked one star because I did get a little bit confused at times! When no ones really speaking it's hard to follow what's happening!! But I did love it and would recommend it if you are fancying a slightly different formula for your story... it is truly a beautiful and brilliant read... quite different from most books I've read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 . . . . . . . . #grimdragon - melancholy characters... "A solitary cup of tea required more care, a blend carefully chosen to match his day. He found the ritual of it quite calming: heating the water, measuring the crisp leaves and curls of dried fruit into the tiny basket, gently brushing the excess away with his fingerpads, watching colour rise through water like smoke as it brewed. Tea was a moody drink." - The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet . As you can imagine, I read that passage about tea and nearly wet myself!! Never has anyone captured my feelings about making a cup of tea so perfectly!! BOOK ME A TRIP TO SPACE PLEASE... Aliens get it!!! . Oh this book has sky rocketed its way to my favourite read of the year... I feel as though I am in mourning for a bunch of friends that I've lost! . The plot of this book trundles along at a steady pace... but it's the CHARACTERS that grab you by the heart and pull you in! I adored every single crew member... even though they were all unique and had their issues - they were just perfectly written, flawed individuals... like we all are really! . I really enjoyed seeing all the different species interact within the crew and on other planets... and how it turns out tolerance towards Aliens and AI can teach us an awful lot about tolerance to each other down here on Earth! . I could talk about this book forever... but I won't!! . I enjoyed this book so much that I would like to send it on to someone who hasn't read it yet (it will be my copy so second hand) with the condition that you will read it and then forward it on to someone else when you've finished... it's the type of book that I feel EVERYONE should read!! - If you want in, just say so in the comments below (if there is more than one of you by Monday then I'll pick at random) . . . . . . . . . . #grimdragon - author you'd never read before - Becky Chambers! . #circleofbookishfriends - obsessed.. with this book . #watermelanerdsnovember - smooth or deckled? - Smooth! . #bookreview #thelongwaytoasmallangryplanet #beckychambers #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bookaholic #bookblogger #a_sill_life #moodofmywindow #myeverydaymagic #autumnmood #autumnreads #cornersofmyworld #wildbonbonreviews
If you are looking for a book to grab you and hold on to you until the very end... this is the one! . Such an addictive little read... I would've read it in a single sitting had I not started it at 9pm! It was fabulous! . I'm not going to give any details regarding the plot away because I went into it blind and I think that was for the best... if I knew what this contained I probably wouldn't have read it. . It was all a bit twisted and disturbing... but done in a really tasteful way so whilst it made you go Ew!! I wasn't so disgusted that I couldn't go on! . A brilliant little mystery... I recommend it to anyone and everyone! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars . Is anyone else finding October to be a seriously productive month reading wise? @thereaderswardrobe and I were saying we are struggling to keep up with reviews we are reading so much.... what a problem to have eh? 😏😂 . . . . . . #grimdragon - that's fucked up... read it you'll know what I mean 🤢 . #theroanokegirls #bookreview #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bookaholic #bookblogger #a_sill_life #moodofmywindow #myeverydaymagic #autumnmood #autumnreads #cornersofmyworld #wildbonbonreviews
"Of all the things that he had ever found, this troubled him the most. Because it was not a ‘something’ but a ‘someone’; of that he was unreasonably sure." - The Keeper of Lost Things . I am very torn about this book which is making it hard to review... . It's one of those books that has two separate story lines that link together eventually... and the reason I'm conflicted is because I loved one of the story lines with all my heart... but the other one was all a bit meh! . The storyline I loved was really fun, touching and heartbreaking... it made me laugh and cry... I could have read about them all day long 😍 . The other storyline (and what I think is sadly the main story) was all a bit dull and tedious by comparison... and I found I struggled to pay attention to what was happening because I wanted to return to the other crew... . Do you ever find that with split story books that sometimes you're only interested in one? . For me it was like reading half a 5 star and half a 3 star book in one... . This would be a perfect summer beach read... the type of book you read on holiday and leave it behind at the hotel for someone else to pick up... it's entertaining enough and really quite sweet... but there is just something missing from it! . . Have you read this? Which story line did you prefer? . . #bookreview #thekeeperoflostthings #autumnmood #viewfrommywindow #beautyofstillmoments #cornersofmyworld #thisautumnlife #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bookaholic #bookblogger #booklr #bookworm #bibliophile #bookish #wildbonbonreviews
"I need no one, I want no one and no one wants me. That is the finest way to pass through this world, running so swiftly even the air cannot stick" - Vixen . This isn't really the type of book I would usually pick up (and if I'm honest I only purchased it because it was pretty) but it turned out to be... alright . Its a story of love, strength and superstition during the breakout of the Black Death in the 1300s. . It was a mixture of beautiful and surprisingly tender romance mixed with cruel deaths and plenty of old-fashioned (aka horrendous) views about women... . It made for a fairly interesting read and whilst I enjoyed it... there were definitely lots of moments where it grated on me... I felt it lost its way towards the end and the beautiful prose was occasionally dropped for coarser language which jarred with the overall tone of the book. . I've posted a lengthier review on my blog if you want to delve deeper into my thoughts (link in bio)... it's the type of book that if you own it, well it's worth a read... but I wouldn't go out of my way to track it down! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . . . . #vixen #bookreview #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bookaholic #bookblogger #a_sill_life #moodofmywindow #myeverydaymagic #autumnmood #autumnreads #cornersofmyworld #wildbonbonreviews
Well that was... interesting . I didn't think Gerald's Game was going to be very me but I actually LOVED it! . I think the stories of Kings that I enjoy most are where most of the battle is in the mind... I adored The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon for this reason and I think it's probably why I loved this one so much! . I really liked Jessie... I thought her character was brilliant - strong, brave and really believable. I found I was able to relate to her - and I understood where her brain was coming from when she was dealing with the demons in her past. . I thought the ending was great... it made me almost want to reread the book to analyse it in greater detail. Simply perfection! . This book does contain some scenes of an upsetting and disturbing nature which I found a bit tough to read...in the interest of being spoiler free I won't go into it -but if you want more info check out @ab_reads review. . I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars... and I would recommend it...but I would say go into it being vaguely aware of the content before hand. . Cannot wait to tuck into the movie next!!! . Read it? Liked it? . #geraldsgame #stephenking #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #mywindowsill #bookreviews #octoberreads #halloweenreads #booksofinstagram #epicreads #igreads #instabook #wildbonbonreviews
“Jesus watches from the wall But his face is cold as stone And if he loves me As she tells me Why do I feel so all alone" -Carrie . Small books that pack a big punch have a special place in my heart... and Carrie certainly delivers a solid hit . This book is like a mash up of She's All That and Mean Girls... with a lot more blood and some telekinesis . It's spooky how well King captures the life and times of being a teenage girl... I don't know about all of you but during my teens I was definitely a victim at some point... and I'm ashamed to say I have also been part of the cruelty crowd... I blame hormones! . This is quite a well known story and I went into it knowing roughly how it all ends up... I still found myself desperately hoping for a different outcome the more I read. . I adored Carrie... she was surprisingly very likeable and I just wanted to reach into the pages and rescue her... I thought the whole story was more tragedy than scary... it really was a sad inevitable little tale . The thing I love about short reads like this one is that there is no let up from the main plot line... there is no room for self indulgent descriptive passages... it's just a story that rolls along at a steady pace... making the book impossible to put down and very quick to read . It's a brilliant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read and perfect for October... if you haven't read it yet then I would really recommend it! . . . . #carrie #stephenking #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #mywindowsill #bookreviews #octoberreads #halloweenreads #booksofinstagram #epicreads #igreads #instabook #wildbonbonreviews
"As Darkness Falls, The Demons Rise" . This book... this is the fantasy series I didn't realise I'd been longing for... I loved it!! . It's full of edge of your seat moments, beautiful world building and three unlikely heroes I could really get behind! . It's the first of five books... so naturally there is A LOT of scene setting, introductions, background history etc. but don't think for one moment that it means its slow and heavy... it was wickedly fast and addictive... in fact, once I hit page 49 I really struggled to put it down! . It has it all... danger, magic, romance... there was also a subtly to Brett's writing which I liked... violent scenes weren't overly graphic and it was cleverly done - in that all the ingredients were there to give you a sense of the attack but allowed space for your imagination build the rest. . I would recommend this to all fantasy lovers... but especially to those who are new to heavier, darker fantasies (like me) as it really pulls you in and holds your attention... just know the first 48 pages are a bit slow... stick with it because after that BOOM! . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . . Side note: As much as I love the autumn... I forgot how annoying it is for photo taking when the light is poor 🍂 . . . #circleofbookishfriends - rainy afternoon stories... this is a perfect miserable weather read! . #thepaintedman #petervbrett #mywindowsill #slowmoments #beautyofstillmoments #books #bookstagram #bookishfeatures #bookstagramfeature #bookreview #fivestarread #fantasy #epicreads #igreads #instabook #cornersofmyworld #coffeeandcake #booksandcoffee #wildbonbonreviews
