Not sure if this was a bit daft but I loved it being written on a lightbox - #justleanintothelight 🙌🏼. I didn’t get round to doing my #wordsofwisdom tag for the October #hellocreativebiz challenge yesterday so I’m catching up today. I have many words of wisdom for all sorts of crash landings in life & I think this straddles some of it. If you follow the light, the thing that makes you sing, if you listen to your gut & your higher self that has no other agenda other than your happiness & learn to trust it, it will generally take you in the right direction. When I’m working, I generally do so instinctively, on a feeling basis as well as a visual balance but all of that is a gut reaction. Not a pre planned, mapped out & painstaking way of working, it just flows. Rolling on & on & on. My life in general is lived this way. It all flows together & if it feels right & lifts me up it will light up everyone around me too. The joy is infectious. It’s good to look for the light. It’s shines it’s brightness on those murky dusty corners & makes you deal with them all whilst making them seem less like a horror movie where you can’t move for your bindings. Lean into the light lovelies - it’s beautiful there. . . . . #inspire #imagine #whatdoesanartistdoallday #nikicottonartdotcom #whatsonthelightbox #art #make #create #artistslife #creativelife #artist #artistsoninstagram #contemporaryartist #musings #text #word #typography #type #pondering #light #creativewomen #thisismylife #love #livewithart #whatsinthestudio
I didn’t get round to doing this yesterday but #wordsofwisdom was the prompt for yesterday’s #hellocreativebiz October challenge. I have many words of wisdom for all sorts of scenarios but if we are paring down our focus to our work then this has to be one of my faves amongst the many. #welcometomyworld. My world is my art & my art is my world. Everything I do, see, feel, think, eat, breathe etc is fed into my work & my work feeds in to the way I live my life & what I surround myself with. Art is an immersive thing. A consuming thing. A thing that has a constant flow of conversation between myself & it. There isn’t a work head & a home head. There isn’t a moment when I’m ‘on’ & ‘off’. I just am. There is no boundary, no drawn line it’s all just a big messy pile. Intertwined & colourful & I freaking love it. . . . . #inspire #imagine #whatdoesanartistdoallday #nikicottonartdotcom #whatsonthelightbox #art #make #create #artistslife #creativelife #artist #artistsoninstagram #contemporaryartist #musings #text #word #typography #type #pondering #light #creativewomen #thisismylife #love #livewithart
Farewell September. You were full on. Back to school, back to work, old friends, family, meet ups with new Instagram friends, creative uploads, creative downloads, colour, painting, drawing, arrival of new design products & studio time to call just some of it. . . . . #grateful #withthanks #september #studio #nikicottonartdotcom #whatdoesanartistdoallday #artistslife #creativelife #instaart #whatsinthestudio #create #colour #art #artist #design #paint #photography #draw #inspire #whatsonthelightbox #imanartistwhatsyoursuperpower #collage
I love this thought. It sums up those days where it just won’t click but you keep at it anyway. Forever the optimist that you’ll burn though it & it will all fall in to place if you just, keep, on, going...... . . . . #musings #pondering #typography #text #word #nikicottonartdotcom #whatdoesanartistdoallday #art #whatsonthelightbox #light #artistslife #creativelife #contemporaryart #livewithart #artist #carveouttimeforart #create #creativeprocess
My studio pal has taken to loitering in the window of the gallery. She didn’t think my snappy message on the light box today was as funny as I thought it was (I’ve already done this one on my other feed @nikicottonartist at home but I just couldn’t revisit using it in the gallery too. I love it!) . . . . #whatsonthelightbox #imanartistwhatsyoursuperpower #musings #typography #word #text #art #create #inspire #artist #whatdoesanartistdoallday #nikicottonartdotcom #contemporaryartist #creativewomen #studio #whatsinthestudio #instaart #creativelife #artistslife #gallery #myspace #no18thestudio #neon #pink #frontdoor #furball #love #mascot #malamute #northerninnuit
I'm an artist. What's your super power? 💃 I ruddy love this one
She threw away all her masks & put on her soul.
Well are you?
Good morning lovelies 🙌🏼 September has arrived & I'm not sure about how you feel, but for me it's almost more of a new year than January. I think I'm still stuck in that school system calendar. New month, new year feeling & of course some new stationary/materials. The seasons start to change. Summer closes & Autumn begins to unfurl. The nights are drawing in, the trees are beginning to turn, a chill hangs in the air, shadows lengthen & the light takes on that stunning gentle golden hue before the stark white of winter arrives. A couple of woolly jumpers & pair of boots to get cosy in as the weather changes always makes me smile. I'm drawing up a list of things I need to focus on in the coming months. Setting my intentions out. Here's to the next step. Let's do what we love & do a lot of it 🙌🏼💙💃✌🏻✨🎉💫💗🌈
Let's all run away
Motivation. It's one of those things that can sometimes feel as elusive as that shy creature inspiration.
Todays light box in the studio has been updated with new words. It's interesting to think about what we see when we look at something & also what we don't see. What we disregard as unimportant to take in or maybe, we make a conscious decision to not see......
It's not often I find myself struggling for words as I have an opinion on just about everything but, I am finding words hard to collect together in sentences that make any sense when listening to the news & debates raging around the events of Charlottesville. That in this day & age where education, world travel, integration, bloody google & the World Wide Web show people for being human regardless of skin colour, religious belief (we aren't talking extremes here just general day to day people going about their day to day lives) gender, shoe size, gay, straight, pink haired, tattooed, whatever, that people can be so scared of someone because of the colour of their skin that they feel the need to don white hoods (although at the weekend they went without which seems sinister on a whole other level as though what they were doing/saying/feeling is so correct that it doesn't need to be hidden behind a faceless mask) light torches & head out on to the street under the banner of being white & largely male & therefore better than anyone else that walks this incredible & beautifully diverse planet we find ourselves lucky enough to hang out, together on. Isn't it time we stood up to this & made a change? Not with yet more laws but in a daily life way. Seeing each other as human & moving on from this terrible bigotry, racism & hatred which seems to be gathering momentum at a frightening pace. These voices being given a platform & tarnishing us all with the same brush need to be shown the bigger picture. They need to be met with love not with hatred & aggression, to be shown that there is another way & it is far more beautiful than their small minded fearful hearts would have them believe. I apologise now if this doesn't flow properly & reads disjointedly but I'm struggling to believe, like with the ruddy feminist conversation, that we are still having to talk about any of this. That any of it still exists apart from where it belongs - in the history books.
Some very marvellous signage happened over at the studio today 🙌🏼 so ruddy exciting! Thanks to those very clever people over at @viewcreative it's all looking super smart & oh so powsh 💗 #whatsonthelightbox #text #typography #musings #word #lightseekers
