It is #WorldContinenceWeek
and I highly encourage y’all to openly discuss all things bladder, bowels, leakage…etc. 👍🏼
Why? Because it is exceedingly common but people are too embarrassed to talk about it or dismiss it as “life" and this makes me sad. ☹️ I can assure you that you are NOT the only one experiencing difficulties and more importantly, HELP IS AVAILABLE. 👌🏼 Here’re a few facts to help you get the convo started. 🗣
Pelvic Floor Facts:
1️⃣ Men and Women both have a pelvic floor, it’s a hammock-like muscle that sits between your legs running from pubic bone to coccyx.
2️⃣ Some of the things your pelvic floor quietly does for you include: Bladder & bowel control, support your pelvic organs, gives you all them feels you feel during sexy times.
3️⃣ It is NOT normal to leak urine when you exercise/cough/sneeze/lift things, this is called Stress Urinary Incontinence. 🙅🏻
4️⃣ Stress Urinary Incontinence is EXTREMELY TREATABLE!!! Pelvic floor exercise has fantastic success rate and in many cases can completely cure the problem.
5️⃣ Incontinence is not strictly the domain of women and older peeps, men and young people can experience it, too. 👨🏻👱🏼♀️👴🏼👩🏻👵🏻👱🏽
Good news = HELP IS AVAILABLE!!! 😃 There’re specialist physiotherapists who are experts in the treatment of incontinence and they are super keen to help you out. Depending on the reasons for your incontinence, you may also need the assistance of other health professionals and they all want to help you.
The Continence Foundation of Australia’s website has loads of information to get you started. 👍🏼
