For a little perspective, here's Michigan Central Depot from the roof of the DPS book repository. That tiny little smokestack on the far corner of the building is the same one I climbed in the other pictures. There's some new glass in the windows now, and a few movies filmed in the basement, but it still looks pretty much the same.
In 1972, the popularity of the pier declined and the city council ordered to shut it down. However, the residents of Santa Monica developed a campaign called "Save Our Pier Forever" and succeeded in keeping the pier. #participatoryplanning
