Painting creek side, with my "baby" on my hip, and the cover art for The Chickabees is done! It's a sweet way for mom to enjoy recess time too. 🌲🎨🐔
For others interested in self publishing or helping their kids to try it - here is what I learned so far.
I scanned my cover art into my computer and used the very basic "Paint" program to add the title Frog Creek People presents The Chickaabees" to the top and the authors and illustrator in small print at the bottom. (As contributing authors my boys are named on it too and will recieve a cut of each sale) I saved it JPEG and uploaded it to my Amazon KDP account! Boom! The cover for the ebook is done! Now to use the programs to create the cover, spine, and back of the paperback version with createspace.com . That is the company Amazon connects me to. Anyone know if this is a good option to use for the paper back or have recommendations for a different company to use? With Amazon KDP and Create Space, it is no money out of pocket to do this process. If and when each copy sells, Amazon fills the order, processes the payment, takes their cut and deposits my cut into my account. .
Save your manuscript as a Word docx NOT AS A PDF. I made that mistake and had to fix it with a free online converter but it did mess with my layout and I had to fix that.
I'm waiting on feedback and proof reading from a few friends in my writing group, and then I will hit the "publish" button. It should be available as an ebook and paperback by the end of June, but I'm not presuring myself, just having fun with it in spare moments in the evening, so I will keep updating you on the progress 😊!
