today is a track called “Lad in my Life”🕺 the name of which I got from the sample which is from a youtube video cover of Michael Jackson’s “Lady In My Life”💃. I wrote this beat a while before I got most of the plugins I use on my beats now so its almost entirely #ableton
effects😱. 🎹The piano sample has two instances of EQ8, one set utilising L/R EQ💱 with slightly different settings on the left and right channels to create greater stereo depth (I think the youtube sample was mono). I’ve used EQ3 with the high band turned off to simulate a lo-fi vinyl sample 📼(which would naturally have less high frequency content). I’ve got Simple Delay for my delay affect, again where Im automating the Dry/Wet controls so that the wet delay signal only comes in for a short section at the end of each 2-bar phrase🌊. This is then all feeding into the ableton compressor on default settings and another compressor sidechained to my kick. 🥁My drums are split into two different channels- one for the high frequency sounds (hats, percs and rim) and one for my 👟. The high channel doesn’t have any processing! But the Kick channel has some #fabfilter #saturn
for some lo-fi saturation, some EQ8 rolling off the high frequencies and the #waves #DBX160
compressor tightening it back up again.💪 🎸 bass track is the patch “HipHop Sub Bass” from ableton’s Operator synth, with waves #maxxbass
and C1 compressor (mono)⬆️ on it as well which I now think is kind of redundant to put on there but thats a mistake I learnt from :) This session is BARE💀- my master channel only has waves L1+ limiter on it! But it still sounds good (to me ears) so it just goes to show you don’t need anything especially fancy to write a dope beat!
Thanks so much for watching❤️- I appreciate yall! and if you have any questions or comments or would like to contact me about some production work hit me in the dms📲
