- Lingua geographica (erythema migrans), a fairly common oral (tongue) lesion. In studies: 1-3% with a grown up population, in earlier Swedish studies, an prevalence of 5,6-8,5% has been found. The lesion is also more frequent with women. The benign inflammatory lesion does not normally present any symptoms, except for its "map-like" outlining of the tongue. Histology: reminds of psoriasis with infiltrate of PMNL (type of leukocytes) cells. But patients with "geographical tongue" 👅, does not show any parallel cases of general psoriasis. The lesion could be effecting the patient on "come and go" basis for weeks-years. The ethology: not known, but stress could be a vital factor, as well as hypersensitivity, allergic reactions. Treatment: normally not needed.
