Being in Los Angeles and being surrounded by countless forms and styles of architecture really changes the way you view things. At first, I used to dismiss the #MidCenturyModern
style, which we now refer to as " #Googie"
as just the "boomerang" style. After being informed on its origins and realizing how frequently we integrate parts of Googie into modern day architecture and design (such as "dingbats" like "✨"), I began to appreciate this lost 50's classic car era meets the atomic/space age.
I recently acquired some books on the subject and found out about Ships Coffee Shop, which used to be located right down the street from #UCLA
in Westwood before being demolished in 1984. Students, friends, faculty, and community alike would meet at Ships for good company, conversation, coffee and cafe food favourites. I just thought I'd pay a quick homage to this gorgeous, eclectic, and retro-futuristic style, hopefully promoting you to find beauty in something that is often looked over. ✨🚀
