This seems to be the fate of this fly rod. It is the second time in six months that I have broken it. The first time it happened I had no one to blame but myself. As it turns out I can be somewhat of a baby when fishing. I was with some friends fishing still water and I couldn’t seem to get dialed in. While my buddy was catching lunkers left and right! I was pretty upset. Just a little word of advice, don’t slap your fly rod excessively into the water throwing a fit. It will break. Second time I tried to destroy it I am going to take a little less responsibility.
The day started out like most of the other days on the water. Crack a beer first thing in the morning, because why wouldn’t you!? Just a little celebration that we having nothing to worry about for the day but trying fool trout with animal hair and man made ingenuity. Well, if one beer tastes good, two is even better! Now its time to get on the water. I started out rowing because thats the kind of guy I am. The morning is going great. The fishing is stellar, energy level in the boat is high. Next thing I know the whiskey bottle is out. I don’t drink whiskey, doesn’t agree with me and I don’t like it. But peer pressure is a funny thing. “Take a drink of this”, me “Had a few beers already, I’m good” My buddy “Quit being a fun hater and take a swig” That was the clean version of the comment. “Ok, fine!” I take a big chug. Well that tasted like shit! So obviously I had to chase it with another beer. Fast forward twenty minutes later and I have to take a leak. We pull over and as I go to step out of the boat(heavily under the influence at this point) my foot does not quite clear the side of the boat, I stumble and crush into my rod in the boat rod holder. To add insult to injury I face plant it head first into the water. At this point I don’t even care. I am to drunk and the fishing is to good to worry. Sage will fix my rod, and I have an extra to finish the day with. I just hope I don’t brake it again... .
