This card and note means a lot to me. It came from a man who, even at his worst, would make the effort to put a smile on your face. Who didn't care what obstacles life threw at him he still did what he wanted. Someone who almost lost his life and was told he would lose the ability to walk but he lived many more years becoming a detective and scuba instructor. Lost a wife and two kids but found love in a soulmate and gained two amazing daughters. Once again life had to test him, that soulmate passed, his bond with the girls grew stronger. He would go on to lose more loved ones, living in a lot of pain physically and mentally. Several surgeries, pain meds, walker, wheelchair. Still he lived like he was a bionic man.
You accepted us as family, you taught us what it's like to be a family. I'm grateful for having you in my life. I'm grateful to experience what real generosity is like and seeing nothing can stand in your way unless you let it. I wish we had more time together. We all regret not spending more time with you. We let our busy lives get in the way of enjoying the present. I can't push rewind but I can try to become at least half the person you are. I will miss your "time to make the donuts," the sound of your loud ass truck, your "Houston we have lift off," along with your many other fart jokes. We miss you and always will. Happy birthday, Donnie.
