I didn’t get around to opening up Urban Family Reserve Series No. 2 alongside No. 1, so I made pizza with kale on it and figured a Muscat barrel-aged saison would be a nice accompaniment.
This entry in the Reserve Series is quite tart, with a small amount of fine, almost champagne-like carbonation. The wine barrel character was strong freshly poured, giving way to increased acidity as my glass warmed.
Overall, I enjoyed No. 1 more than No. 2, but the Muscat character made this an interesting foil to my pizza.
This releases alongside Reserve Series No. 1 tomorrow. Looks like the taplist is solid and for those of you going, enjoy that nice new glassware. 👌🏻
Urban Family has come a long way in the past year, and it’s been a pleasure to see it—and taste it—up close.
My own urban family got together recently to celebrate my new home, and I was lucky enough to share a sneak peek of their upcoming Reserve Series with them.
Reserve Series No. 1—foudre-fermented, oak-aged on apriums & nectarcots—bursts with that hybrid aroma. Can’t say I’ve ever had either of the fruits individually, but there’s certainly a lot of apricot going on—but not just apricot.
The tart stone fruit, delivered by way of a pleasant carbonation and not-insubstantial mouthfeel, went very well with the spread I laid out for our arriving guests.
The beer was a hit; the house was a hit.
I’m looking forward to drinking many more Urban Family beers like this (and unlike this) in the future.
The release is Saturday, December 16th at the brewery; I recommend picking some up!
Side Project Brewing|Pulling Nails Blend #4|One of, if not my favorite blend in the Pulling Nails series. Such a beautiful beer. Funky, complex, and everything I am looking for in a blend. 🙌
