A few weeks ago I applied for a sponsorship from the Griffith University Professional Development and Community Enrichment Fund, in order for me to attend a criminology conference held in Canberra (Australia's capital city). This opportunity is only open to students with a consistently high GPA and who have high levels of community engagement, including being a student mentor.
As I currently hold 6 employment positions within the university (both paid and volunteer), as well as studying 2 degrees and holding down a research internship, as well as having a high GPA and being involved in multiple academic excellence and honours societies, I would say that I am fairly involved with the Griffith Community!
Today, I received an email congratulating me on being successful with my application. This means that the university will be fully paying for me to attend the 30th Annual Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology (ANZSOC) Conference in Canberra from the 6th – 8th December, 2017. This conference is the leading conference for Australian and New Zealand criminologists, and attracts world renowned researchers from around the globe. Griffith will be paying for all of my flights, hotel costs and the conference costs ($3000 in total!) for this once in a lifetime chance!
I am absolutely over the moon and thrilled that I have been chosen for this wonderful opportunity, and it is proof that getting involved really does make a world of difference. Thank you Griffith, I knew there was a reason I loved you!
