Abs & Booty Bible Chapter 3: Deadlift Stance & Knee Tracking 💪🏼 ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ Strong glutes are key for strong deadlifts so it's important that we use them efficiently. A quick tip for deadlifts is to assess your stance & knee tracking and what effect this has on your glute activation during the lift. ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ Video 1 shows a wider than usual stance (for me). The first set of arrows highlight that when I had a wider stance I was forced to get into a lower start position (further from lockout). Compare this to video 2, having a narrower stance allows me to have a higher start position (closer to lockout). The next set of arrows show that as I lifted the weight in video 1 my knees tracked inwards, compared to my feet, causing me to lose tension through my glutes and pull with my back only. In video 2 however my knees track outwards, compared to my feet, which allows me to maintain tension through my glutes and hamstrings and use these muscles in addition to my back to complete the lift. ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ This can be applied to stiff leg deadlifts or rdls. A few core stability exercises that are regulars in my routine. Keeping the core muscles strong is so important. In a world where most adults are seated over eight hours a day it's no wonder why so many people suffer with back pain. You need to switch those postural muscles back on and have them supporting you and taking that pressure of your spine and hips.
False Grip Ready ✔ ▫ If you want to incorporate rings into your training (and why wouldn't you 😜) and plan to do more than Row and Pull-Up with them, the false grip is something you'll need to get accustomed to.. ▫ To get into it, wedge the edge of the ring nice and deep into the space between the thumb and index finger. Attempt to close your grip, extending your arms into a hanging position while maintaining a bent wrist and closed grip as pictured - the inside of the ring should be resting on the soft bottom of the palm of your hand 🙌 ▫ Essentially you want to be able to hang with straight arms, pull yourself up and pull yourself over while maintaining the false grip position, but you may struggle at first. To begin with try false grip rows, false grip hangs with your feet supported...anything that helps you build the wrist strength, confidence and mobility required. ▫ Go easy but stick with it, no matter how weird and unnatural it feels (probably because it is 😂)
