Back Pain 101: aim small miss small. Usually one little thing can trigger a "spasm" or low back pain and it may be something you're doing every day! So in these next few weeks I'll be sharing pictures and videos as to how to rebuild your foundation! Your body needs a perfect combination of strength and flexibility and it's going to look different for everyone! However! We all have the same structure (for the most part) so starting with the stability will benefit everyone! Here I share some of my favorite: isometric obliques. Isometric meaning no movement! Try 3 sets of 10 to start holding each press for approximately 5 seconds or 2 breaths. 🔸TIP: 1. Keep low back glued to floor! 2. Extend arms and then let the knee meet the hand. 🔸 Feel your obliques engage! Felt a little pudgier this morning after that cookie cake and pizza last night. Oh. I didn't mention I had pizza last night...? Yeah. I had pizza last night. Pepperoni Pizza. I hadn't had any for 6 months and it was sooooo good!!! But NOT so good for my belly. Meet Vara, she is a passionate childhood cancer advocate who loves dancing and art. Her mom took her in for what she thought was a bladder infection in March of 2016. What started off as an urgent care visit on a Tuesday turned in to a kidney removal on Friday morning. Her family was forever changed when she was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a type of childhood cancer. She is strong, and has never given up. Not once has she felt down or sorry for her self. She is indeed, a warrior and a fighter. In December of 2016 scans came back saying the exciting news that Vara was NED (no evidence of disease)! Since then she has continued to have doctors appointments and scans despite being in remission. We plan to send sweet Vara a care package and blanket in her very favorite colors. Week 2 DUP day 1/4 - despite looking like a horse stomping a hoof, I'm pretty happy with the bench. Everything else is kinda *meh* Periodization breakdown: BP 6x1 90% (120lbs); SQ 4x4 80% (165lbs); ugly DL 4x4 80% (235lbs). Lessons learned: drink an actual glass of water a day. Building my legs &glutes over the years is something I feel great about. (Just as much as all other areas of my body of course) Genetics plays a huge role considering I was hardly born with glutes and grew only quads from all the years of sports I took part in. Changing the foundation of your body by feeding it well (GO VEGAN), training it properly** &consistently, & taking care of your mind &emotions during the process, will all create a joyful YOU. The good thing about being a little bit chunkier is that you have more cushioning to bounce off of when you squat 😂 110kg for sets of 3 feeling relatively easy. My "strength" days have really just been "technique" days. Every once a week or so, and never more than an RPE of 8 so as not to overly tax my nervous system and hence hinder recovery 🤕 Despite not having done much strength work in the past 7 months, strength seems to not have deteriorated much at all! I owe that to the improvement in neuro-muscular drive from all that "feel-the-muscle" hypertrophy stuff - that mind-muscle connection that enables the recruitment of more muscle fibres, which in turns has lead to more strength gains 👍
