Since coming back from my injury it's no surprise that overhead lifting is my biggest area for improvement. It's taken a lot of hard work and confidence building but I'm finally getting there. This isn't a problem I could ignore and hope that it magically got better over night, it's taken hours a day of rehab over the last 10months, from just straightening my arm using the force of my other hand, to 3kg bicep curls, to finally progressing onto lifting movements. #transformstiontuesday. Alternating #splitjerk. Although I do not DO #crossfit, I do enjoy its movements, and I do work with it's athletes'. It's great to be able to lift a heavy load on your dominant side, but what happens when you attempt it on the other? Is your brain even able to initiate a firing pattern for performance? Maybe, but with much less weight doe to remarkable Instability and strength difference. If you cannot skillfully perform this movement on both sides, than you are setting yourself up for disaster. Sure, in #competition the goal is to win, so use your dominate side! But in practice, you ought to be training both sides equally. #perfectpracticemakesperfect doing so Will make you aware of missing links and imbalances in your movement , and develop greater precision on your dominant side. I have even found that, sometimes, I can even perform a particular movement better on my "non-dominant" side. You never know Til you try! This was 145lbs (75% of my body weight). I did 5 working sets of 5 at this weight; it was #challenging, but not overly heavy . #discipline #form #bodyawareness #mindfulmovement #jesuslovesyou #therapy #powerlifting
