What challenges have you recently overcome during production? Worked with new gear, new people, a look you have never captured before? . We like to keep it fresh. We are constantly accepting these challenges because we want to accompish something different from what we have done previously, and push ourselves. . If you like old timey music, sound on! Music is Frog Legs Rag by James Scott (1906, public domain.) 🚀 Here Kuiper is practicing his dumbbell retrieve over the high jump for obedience. I shot this on my phone at 60 FPS and slowed it down to a cinematic 24 FPS so that you can actually see him. 🚀 SPACEWHIPPET'S TIPS FOR DOGS THAT WANT TO VIDEO GOOD AND DO OTHER STUFF GOOD TOO 🚀 1. Consider purchasing a tripod. I bought a 50-inch one for $13 on Amazon. It came with a little bag and everything. For a couple more $ you can add a little phone holder that screws onto it. 🚀 2. If your phone is capable, shoot your video in 4k (3840x2160.) Although Instagram doesn't display video in 4k (yet...), this gives you the most leeway for cropping it. 🚀 3. Although I didn't do it with this video, I usually crop it square because it takes the most screen real estate (so the viewer can really see what's going on.) I recommend cropping to whatever size square looks good and then exporting to 1080x1080 (unless your crop is smaller) 🚀 4. If you want to learn how to use video or photo editing software on your computer, Lynda.com is an AWESOME resource. You may have free access through your local library; check with them. I prefer to read through the video transcripts and then click on the part that I want to see instead of sitting through 7 hours of soothing verbal instructions. 😂 🚀 5. Try to keep your video short and focused on the action. Would it be immediately obvious to a random stranger what's going on? Is your video dependent on sound for context? I usually browse Insta with sound off; how about you? 🚀 6. 🤓🤓🤓 It's too complicated to fully explain here, but exporting and uploading in the right video format will help prevent Instagram from re-encoding your video and making the quality worse. You want to use h264, fixed framerate (max 30 FPS), and if using Adobe Premiere, check the "Max render quality" box. I've found best results with using VBR 2-pass encoding (and a pretty high bitrate.) If this makes your device cough like the vegan lion in Futurama, try CBR at 8 Mbps. If none of these words made sense to you, don't worry about them. 🤓🤓🤓 More tips coming soon!
