HAPPY BI-VISIBILITY DAY (for yesterday - one day late but the message is still important!) 😄 As a bisexual woman, I never really feel like I "fit" into the straight world OR the LGBT+ community 🤷♀️ When I'm dating a straight guy (which I am atm), I feel "disqualified" from LGBT+ spaces...then, when I'm dating a woman, I find straight people treat me differently, like I'm this "lesbian Other" they can't relate to🤔 And when I came out as bi to a colleague, his immediate reaction was: "well you're greedy aren't you?" 🙄
I get that humans have a natural/learned desire for clarity, consistency, and categorisation. I get that in the West especially, we like taxonomies and definitions. But what's WRONG with being BOTH, and NEITHER, and IN-BETWEEN? 👬👫👭 What's WRONG with seeing so much MORE than gender in your attraction to a person? 💟 Why do we have to be BOXED IN, and not FLUID? 🏄♀️ .
So here's a #shoutout
to all my bi and poly people 🙌 You may feel misunderstood, invalidated, and made invisible. But you are worthy, wonderful, and fabulous 🕺💃 Know that it's ok to be who you are, to push boundaries and upset distinctions - you're far too glorious to be contained within the margins of narrow-minded people's thoughts 💅
PS this cute post-it is from the Note Coffee in Hanoi 🇻🇳 Go try their egg coffee if you're in town ☕😋
PPS can we petition to get a bisexual pride emoji pls? Tenk u
