// EAT WHEN HUNGRY // Some 7 hours after my breakfast (see 2 previous posts) I'm sitting down to a late lunch / early dinner of anchovy and olive salad with creme fraiche dusted with raw cacao for dessert. What I tell my clients is that if you can't get 5-7 hours between meals then either: ▪️ your meal isn't big enough; and /or ▪️ your meal wasn't nutrient dense enough; and/ or ▪️something is going on internally preventing you from absorbing the nutrients in the food you're eating (malabsorption). Typically when clients increase their meal size and dial up nutrient-density, the number of meals decrease and they can go much longer in between meals, thus allowing them to get on with their day and not spend half their life in the kitchen! As a former vegetarian/vegan on a low fat high carb diet, I was hungry every 2 hours, much like cows who graze continually (but as ruminant animals cows are designed to do that). Humans on the other hand are designed to be omnivores. We are, at our core, Hunter-Gatherers, with genes that evolved to eat intermittently, giving the digestive system a big break. For most people eating when hungry might mean 3 solid nutrient dense meals per day or maybe only 1 or 2 meals with a cup of broth or something light in between. Play around, experiment, listen to your body, and appreciate that what might work at one stage in your life or for one season or for one week might not work at another time.
