What a better landscape to be dwarfed by than the simplicity of a desert dune field under a clear blue sky? While the landscape shows of Mother Earth's minimalist side, there 's nothing simple about how it came to be. What fascinates me as I walk through land like this is the mystery that lies in the questions 'where?' and 'when?'--'Where' did all of these grains of sand come from? A singular source? Perhaps a conglomerate of representation from many ancient rock formations intermingling in the geological desert rendezvous. 'When' were the rocks and minerals the sand is comprised of form? Furthermore, when did they weather down from rock to sand? And how long did that take? Dwelling on thoughts like this can get you lost in an already overwhelming landscape, but in a good way.
