DOTSON’S WATERFRONT CONDO. YOU CAN HAVE THE BEST WATER VIEW IN MYSTIC, CT — Mystic is the kind of town that will make you homesick for a place you have never been. My wife Linda and I moved here after 9-11. It was a beautiful fall day. I had spent 6 weeks unearthing stories in the rubble at Ground Zero in New York City. We needed to see America as it once was -- and in Mystic, still is. This was not a house hunting trip, but there are still places in this country that call us. Locations where you feel connected to shared landscape and experience, where comfort comes with a whiff of river water or a dreamlike haze at dawn. That's Mystic. It has been our I home for 16 years, perfectly located for weekend getaways from our New York City apartment. In 2008 the folks who sign, paychecks on the TODAY Show built me an office on the top floor. A thank you for 4 decades of seemingly endless travel. My commute to work became one floor. That gave me time to write the New York Times best seller, "American Story, a Lifetime Search for Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things." This is what I saw when I looked up from my work. Rarely do such waterside views come up for sale. This can be yours. Why are we leaving such a special place? We do not always travel roads of reason, but we go any way. Travelinginto the unknown is as American as a covered wagon.
