Just when I was about to leave, a little disappointed because I didn’t have my eagle picture. I heard some one crying: “eagle!” And I immediately knew this was the perfect shot. I set up my camera and shot just when the eagle was passing by in front of me. It was beautiful! Thank you @pjyarnall for bringing me here and for the tripod, thank you @paulenglishimages for the bird photography tips and thanks @photogeardesigns for the PGD tracker. . . . . . . . . #beautifuldestinations #travel #travelgram #nikon #nikon_photography_ #travelshots #nikontop #shotoftheday #traveler #globetrotter #travelphotography #wanderlust #wander #worldtravel #picoftheday #photographer #nature #travelblog #naturephotography #instago #travelblogger #traveltheworld #nAturelovers #photogeardesigns #conowingodam #eagles #birdphotography #bird #animallovers #wildlifephotography
Again this winter we're being visited by a large, rough-legged hawk that has taken up residence in the field behind our house. This video is from last year but I've seen similar behavior by the hawk and our pesky starlings that would prefer the hawk move to another wintering location! From what I've read the hawk we're seeing this year is likely the same hawk that claimed this winter hunting ground last year. The starlings chasing it are performing a "murmuration" which is a method of defense against a predator like the hawk. Interestingly, we also have a large female red-tailed hawk that has taken up residence in the same area just as last year. However, last winter when the snow covered the ground and food became scarce the smaller red-tailed hawk moved away, probably at the insistence of the larger rough-legged hawk that wasn't keen on sharing the territory.
Many birds stand on one leg when resting, some even sleeping while appearing precariously balanced. These two herons were keeping close watch for nearby fish in the swamp at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in upstate New York.
Now, there aren't a lot of fish on the roof of our house so I wonder why this heron decided to land here this morning?
For you pilots out there: Gear down and locked, Flaps 40 degrees, Airbrakes deployed, Horizontal stabilizer trimmed, Spoilers deployed ... landing setup complete!
Today we visited the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in upstate New York today where I found the usual (ho-hum) eagles, herons, hawks, egrets, cormorants, etc. Along the way, however, I ran across a rare Yellow-crowned Peeper, more commonly known as @pjyarnall.
We found these two guys working over a utility pole this morning. Based on the damage I've seen them do to trees the power company may be replacing this pole soon!
I got bored waiting for a perched osprey to takeoff a few days back when I noticed the partial moon heading for the horizon as the sun rose. The moon is easy enough to see with your two eyes, it is a lot harder to find looking through 900mm of lens magnification! Since the PGD Tracker was already in place for the osprey I was trying to capture, all I needed to do was quickly find the moon with the Tracker then transition to the view finder for final framing and fire away. Use all the tools you have to make the job easier. . . #esm_1 #pgd_tracker #pgdtracker #sportsphotography #bestbirdshots #birds_adored #photogeardesigns #eye_spy_birds #ip_birds #igscwildlife #canon #moon #sonyalpha #olympus #sportsphotography #wildlifephotography #birdphotography #naturephotography #nature #birding #baseballphotography #soccerphotography #upstateny #fingerlakes
New to Nature Visions 2017! . . We are excited to announce that Photo Gear Designs will be joining us and will be debuting the PGD Tracker Kit. The PGD Tracker marries optical reflex sighting technology, developed originally for firearms, to telephoto action photography.  Utilizing the ESM-1 mount created at Photo Gear Designs, the customized PGD Tracker sight can be easily and quickly mounted to any camera hot shoe with repeatable precision.  Instead of trying to follow a moving target looking through a lens with a narrow field of view and mirror - shutter blackout, the photographer uses both eyes open to the scene and merely keeps the projected sight reticle on the subject. Get more info at www.photogeardesigns.com IG: @photogeardesigns.  Come see us at table U31 and see how you can increase your action image success rate! . . Visit naturevisions.org to register and for more information on the vendors, speakers, and workshops at Nature Visions Photo Expo 2017, November 3-5  Manassas Virginia, Hylton Performing Arts Center . . . . . #nvpe #nvpe2017 #naturevisions #naturevisions2017 #nature #naturephotography #photogeardesigns #pgdtracker #vendorinfo #hummingbird #rubythroatedhummingbird #bluejay #hawkphotography #birdsofinstagram #birdphotography #birdphoto #photogear #photogearaddict #cameragear
You may be wondering why I would post a shot of the moon on our PhotoGearDesigns feed where we are promoting the PGD Tracker, a terrific tool for tracking moving objects.  I got bored waiting for a perched osprey to takeoff this morning when I noticed the partial moon heading for the horizon as the sun rose. Tufted Titmouse posing! I love these little birds but they are hard to catch for a couple of seconds to get the shot. This one paused long enough to capture this pose.  I am thinking about all the Florida residents and Texas residents right now dealing with the catastrophic Hurricanes! Sometimes I feel a little guilty when I disturb a hawk. This guy gave me a dirty look before he flew away. The second photo was just after he flew away, and the third photo is when he is quite a distance away. I love my PGD Tracker for taking these bird photos!
A couple of juvenile American Bald Eagles appear to fight for position on a perch at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in upstate New York. I think they were just playing and practicing for protecting hunting territory that will be important to them as they mature and migrate to their eventual living spaces.
I feel liberated now that I have my PGD Tracker to help shoot birds in flight! A trip to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in upstate New York today yielded some pretty good results (despite Instagram doing some unkind cropping). We found juvenile bald eagles and hawks, and herons too. The eagles play-fought over a perch, probably practice for the real territory fights in their futures. I haven't quite nailed this BIF (birds in flight) thing yet, but I'm well on my way thanks to @pjyarnall and @paulenglishimages .
I'm having some fun with the series of still images I shot of a cormorant yesterday. This bird was flying over the Canandaigua City Pier (New York) while I was learning how to use my new PGD Tracker device for shooting birds in flight.
