Exercise Four - The Front Squat - Girls Only Strength and Conditioning
The fourth squat variation utilised across the program for the development of lower body strength is the front squat. The difference in bar placement (front rack as oppose to back rack) changes the biomechanics of the movement making the front squat far more demanding on the core to maintain upright posture of the torso and also causes greater utilisation of the quads.
It is essential that adequate mobility is considered prior to the front squatting to maintain optimal posture. Three common sites that tend to hinder front rack mobility are; the lats, the triceps and general mobility through the thoracic region.
We keep the from squat simple at Velocity Sports Science and remember each rep to; - Drive the elbows up - Brace (Pull the ribs down!)
- Drive the hips through! #velocitysportsscience #vss
