Lol 😂, so true !
Let’s gist a little, I grew up in a home where you know you’re loved not by necessarily getting I Love You’ said at you all day or by saying it to another.
In our minds we knew we were loved, at least we had each other’s backs and my mom always reminded us of her undying love and wish to see us become better persons in the future after flogging us 😒😒😒
So I love you Dad, Mom, or Sis/Bros was hard, we ain’t used to it.
Fast forward to when I met my mother in law, first time we spoke over the phone, while we were about the ending the call, maami said ‘I love you’ whaaaaaat?? 😳😳😳😳I looked at my phone, placed it back to my ear and said ‘eerm, ma??’ She repeated herself again, I froze, it was so awkward and it sounded like the grossest thing ever,’ I quickly ended the call, ordinarily I don’t hang up while talking with an older person on phone, but that day was an exception, I had to digest the entire ‘I love you’ stuff. 🙄🙄🙄
Later, I realized it was a common thing in the family, I love You was always flying upandan, even my sis in law once said that to me over the phone, to reply was wahala, I felt a lump in my throat, it was like I had Oral Stroke abi Mouth and Tongue stroke, the words couldn’t come forth, as usual I ended the call. So all along, I kept wondering how they do it, it was a real struggle for me, as I had to adapt to it.
Major struggle was when I wanted to introduce it to my fam, lol 😂, my siblings got no chills, first day I called my sis and ended with I love you, she was like “ke ihe oo” meaning what is it, then she continued, hope you know it’s me you’re talking to,biko bye bye, as she laughed and ended the call. Right now, I add ‘I love you’ to them via texts, I feel it’s easier and less awkward in text than in actual speech. .
What about you, is saying I love you Dad, Mom, Sis or Bros, harder this present economy to you???
