FLEX FRIDAY 🏃and Fall 🌻 all in the same day 🤗 Training for the upcoming marathon this season is tough. Eating to support your training, fuel your workouts, and promote recovery and muscle repair in between workouts can be equally as tough. ♡ One of my clients this week asked me how I feel about steel cut oats ➡My answer, just like every other answer that I provide, was individualized: ▪Generally, steel cut oats are a complex carb and are a higher quality, more nutrient dense option than quick-cooking oats. They are a solid breakfast option and can even be used as post-workout fuel to help replete ones glycogen stores after a lengthy training sesh. ▪That said, some individuals experience inflammation, GI distress, mood swings and/or blood sugar spikes & dips when eating meals/snacks that are too carb heavy. Some individuals also are sensitive to grains and experience fatigue, brain fog, and other such symptoms when their eating pattern includes grains (I know, I'm one of them!) How will you know if that's you? By listening to your body and/or working with a dietitian who understands the benefits of practicing individualized nutrition to get you feeling & fueling your best! Daily rituals can give so much meaning to your life! What do I mean? Something that you protect time to do, rituals are synonymous with self care. An hour in the morning to sip coffee and read, an hour before bed everyday to stretch and meditate. What rituals do you follow? ••• For weeks this summer I gave up my ritual cup of black coffee. Why? It was loosing it's meaning, I was relying on it and not just as a warm hug in the morning anymore. Which lead me to reassess greater events in my life that we're disrupting my ritual of early wake ups and black coffees. Glad to be back on track 🙏🏼also, because it just tastes so good 😅

Four legs one picture?! 🐔🏃😂 If you know me then you know that this wasn't enough food for dinner last night, especially since yesterday was leg day, and I biked like a thousand miles around and in between jury duty 😋 Therefore true life - I DID most definitely have a bedtime snack (of cashew butter and cacao nibs 😋) because I was hungry about 2 hours later & this is what I was craving. Doing so allowed me to feel satisfied, curb my hunger, and meet my nutrient needs in order to wake up for a kickass workout this morning 🏃 Moral of the story: It is SO important to honor your hunger & your cravings, however weird or crazy they may be. Denying yourself of beneficial nutrients or, alternatively, the foods that you love, can ultimately work against you and inhibit you from reaching your health and wellness goals.
