A beautiful patient of mine came to the clinic last night and mentioned she keeps waking up at 4.30am. I explained to her that is the time of lung and is associated with grief and sadness. She then told me her sister had recently been diagnosed with cancer. I gave her some herbal medicine & recommended she try some deep breathing mindfulness / meditation and let fresh air into the room at night. She text me this morning and said she already felt much better... . . Even after 18 yrs of studying TCM I'm fascinated, how often it’s theories seem to fit with how we feel and function. This is such a good sentiment!! We've all tried and "failed" and we've certainly all made mistakes, some tiny and some...less than tiny. But what I've learned over the last few years of *plentiful* mistakes and failures, is that if you use them as the tools that they really are, you can pull unimaginable growth from inside them. If you really take the opportunity to examine your choices, motivations, emotions and thoughts, and learn more about what makes you tick and why you are drawn to particular patterns of behavior or decision making, you can only ever move forward and improve! It sounds extra cheesy, but these rough patches really are opportunities. Use them as a second (or third or fiftieth) chance to try something different to what you've done in the past and see what happens! Worst case scenario you'll wind up in the same place you are now with a brand new adventure in front of you and new options to try out. Life is an adventure! I decided to take this photo to show how important it is to feel comfortable without makeup on. Sometimes, when we are so used to our faces looking differently, that when we wash our makeup off that there can be a change in our level of confidence. I used to have troublesome skin and this used to be really hard to me and it has taken a LONG time for me to get to a point where I can take a photo like this and feel comfortable for the world to see it. Some days are easier then others to practice what we teach. Ego can step in and make us push through or we go on auto pilot and forget we have choices to switch off and sometimes that hamster wheel is moving so fast we don't realise we control the off switch. I totally get it when my clients say they don't have time to rest or be sick or that no one else will do it if they don't. But we all operate at maximum capacity when we do rest, when we take the time to nurture ourselves and fill our own cup. I heard Caroline Myss say once schedule it in. She was referring to having a rant or a vent but i love the idea. So my #thursdaythoughts for the day...schedule in a little you time every week. Do something that nurtures your soul and fills your cup.
