Western slope, you've always had my heart. ••• Another scene from the road to #hempontheslope.
The mesas of Western Colorado are truly unique. Over half of the land in the mesa county area is classified as "rock outcrop, rock land, or bad land." Truly beautiful, yet unapproachable for agriculture. However, the minority of soils are classified as some type of loam, and often found in valleys and alongside waterways in canyons. These are undeniably fertile and rich in trace minerals from the weathering of surrounding rock features. There are quite a few microclimates on the western slope as well, leading to a rugged landscape fragmented by handfuls of oases - many of which well-suited for orchards, vineyards, vegetables, & as time tells, hemp!
