In another place and time
We lived within the woods
Ate berries from the vine." I've spent the weekend weeding and letting go of things I don't want, things I don't need, things that just irritate me because I go about moving them from place to place. Years ago, I whittled down my CD (!) collection. I pulled them out again this weekend fully prepared to toss them all. But I didn't. Apparently, last time I cleaned out my CDs, I did a great job of only keeping those albums that are really important to me. Like this one. Lucinda Williams' Live at the Fillmore. How did I forget how incredible this album is? The lonely slide in "Overtime," the hard driving tragedy in "Pineola," all those times I tried to growl out "Changed the Locks" in hope to toughen myself from this feeling little mess of a human. I'm always struck by being caught in the middle of remembering.
This morning, I'm tidying and centering myself around Ms. Lucinda, reminding myself of those things inside me that beg to be acknowledged and cultivated. Fall's always a time to do this, to pull my sap back into my roots and sit deeply with myself.
I'm looking forward to you, Fall. I see you out there, just a-waiting. 🍂🍁
