If you're a fan of tempura, you'll be delighted by the latest offering by Kohaku Tendon.
Although the ingredients are all coated with the same tempura batter, each type of mushroom - shiitake, maitake, shimeji, enoki, erinji, and oyster - offers a different texture.
Accompanying the mushrooms are two juicy prawns and a slice of Atlantic salmon that's marinated with traditional yuan sauce made from soy sauce, sake, yuzu juice and kabosu (a citrus fruit that's popular in Japan). The tendon is flavourful, not overly greasy, and best enjoyed with a glass of iced green tea ($2 with free refills). At $17.50++, this seasonal offering is great value for money, considering ladies may have some difficulty finishing the hearty tempura portions.
Do try to go there early as we heard that Kohaku will be dishing out only 100 bowls daily. .
