MEN'S 5000M FINAL
Paul Chelimo, the 2016 silver medalist in Rio, soloed from the gun to a first ever outdoor national title and second this year in 13:08.62, a championship record. It was a remarkable effort from the start to win by more than 7 seconds after closing home in 59.3 seconds for his final lap.
WOMEN'S 5000M FINAL
Shelby Houlihan, the top American in the 2016 Olympic final, won her first ever outdoor national title as well and third total for the year in 15:13.87. She defeated American record** holders Shannon Rowbury **(15/5k) and Molly Huddle **(10k) with a 61.6 second final lap.
MEN'S 10000M FINAL
Galen Rupp, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the marathon (and has a silver in this event from 2012), attempted to make it his 9th straight US title for the event but found that he didn't have the speed to keep up with them over the final lap. Rupp, fade to fifth place losing by 3 seconds to Hassan Mead's 55.2 second closing lap of the race, which he won in 29:01.64.
WOMEN'S 10000M FINAL
Molly Huddle, the 2016 Olympic 6th placer with her 30:13.17 best in the event from that race, ran away with her third title over world bronze medalist Emily Infeld and training partner Emily Sisson in a time of 31:19.86. Her final lap of 65.1 crushed the former American record holder Shalane Flanagan as well (who has a silver medal from the Olympics in 2008) and finished 4th.
