Happy Saturday! Or, as I’m calling it, HAMILTON DAY. T-minus six hours till the magic begins, guys.
I was so desperate to finish Ryan Graudin’s Invictus last week, I took my hardcover copy with me to the gym and propped it up on the elliptical’s tiny shelf so I wouldn’t have to take a break from reading! Invictus is a layered novel involving time travel, sometimes-snarky characters, illegal missions to plunder artifacts from doomed moments in history, love in its many different forms, science, an awesome red panda, delicious gelato, cool period costumes, and so much more.
I really enjoyed this book. In the afterward, Graudin describes it as science fiction with a little bit of historical fiction — a reverse of Wolf by Wolf and Blood for Blood — and she’s so right. It’s a great blend of the two genres! The world building was fascinating, the writing gripping, and the characters lovable. I already want to go back to this story and I only JUST left it! My full review of Invictus is on our blog (link in bio), but if you like YA sci-fi or books involving time travel, you NEED to add this novel to your TBR stack!
Challenges for today:
Relatable character: Imogen and Priya are both very relatable. I wish I could download Priya’s music collection!
She doesn’t need a hero. She is the hero. Girl power. I’m going to say the name Elliot and leave it at that. Read Invictus and you’ll see!
