Another highly recommended selection from the list of upcoming Record Store Day Black Friday releases is the 15th Anniversary Edition of Invention by Daedelus ( @daedelus
). I've mentioned it plenty of times in the past, but I love this album enough that I chose it to be the first music that I pumped into the womb for my unborn son, via some headphones on his mother's belly. I tracked my copy of the vinyl down and had it sent from Germany, because I needed to own it. Hopefully, you won't need to.
The RSDBF version will have it paired with the accompanying Quiet Party EP/single as a special edition double LP on blue and beige colored vinyl in a limited edition run of 1000. It looks like this pressing also includes the track "A Touch Of Spring" which was included on the CD, but never the vinyl release of the EP. And despite it being listed on the CD as being "taken from the forthcoming record "Of Snowdonia," it didn't appear on that either.
I clearly already have both Invention and Quiet Party, but would still label this one as a must have. In fact, just last year, in January, I published a post listing 15 releases that I thought deserved the Record Store Day treatment and, on it, I included both Invention and Of Snowdonia, mentioning how they could possibility even do them as a double album together, if needed. Surprising enough, this is pretty fucking close. Of Snowdonia might have been a lot to hope for, since it's never even been pressed to vinyl, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for that in the future. Seeing that this is coming out through Daedelus's own Magical Properties label, makes me especially optimistic.
For those that haven't listened to this earlier Daedelus stuff, this is among my favorite material from him. The Quiet Party features Madlib remixes, but if you like Madvillain, you should recognize the song "Experience" from Invention as the track that was sampled for "Accordion." In fact, Daedelus himself can be seen in the "Accordion" video playing one.
If you're doing the Black Friday thing this year, you'd be wise to add this one to your list
