Cultural Fit: Showing your Personality to Employers
In the same way that for you getting a job is not just about that salary, #employers
are looking for that ‘je ne se quoi’ too. When hiring managers say they’re looking for that extra ‘something’, they usually mean good #culturalfit
Cultural fit works both ways, and if you want to make it to the interview stage you will need to get this across on paper. CVs can be really impersonal documents, so when we talk to candidates on the phone we always ask them about their lives and loves outside of work.
The chances are that there will be other candidates with very similar skills and qualifications to yourself, so you need something to help you outshine the rest. It has been popular in the past to omit hobbies and interests as a section in your CV. To some, it seemed unprofessional or juvenile; irrelevant to whether or not you can do a certain job. These also tend to be the people who declare that they’re not at work to make friends, and sit alone at lunch time.
