Kortisol adalah hormon yang dihasilkan di dalam tubuh untuk merespon stress dan situasi darurat. Stress dalam jangka waktu panjang akan menghasilkan tingginya tingkat kortisol. Tingkat kortisol yang tinggi terhubung dengan kenaikan berat badan, keinginan makan yang berlebihan, tekanan darah yang tinggi, sistem imun yang lemah, dan masalah kesuburan. Mempertahankan tingkat kortisol sangat penting untuk kesehatan. Melemahkan Sistem Imun Kortisol yang tinggi dapat melemahkan sistem imun dalam jangka panjang. Orang di bawah stress kronis lebih rentan terkena penyakit yang disebabkan oleh virus seperti flu dan pilek, serta infeksi lainnya. Stress juga dapat menambah lamanya waktu penyembuhan.
