At University of British Columbia for an enjoyable lunch catching up and discussing future collaborations with the incredibly incredible Dr Jack Taunton, an early pioneer of Sports Medicine who continues to lead the way today.
Jack served as medical officer at the 84 88 92 and 2000 Olympic Games, most recently Chief Medical Officer of the Vancouver 2000 Olympic Games.
He established Vancouver's very first Sports Med Clinic with Dr Doug Clement, both of them gracious rock stars in life, sport, coaching, medicine and academia leading research, lecturing and mentoring grad students.
Dr Taunton also helped start the Vancouver Marathon, the Vancouver Sun Run (approx 40,000 runners each year) and SportsMedBC.
Dyslexic, he became a doctor.
Upon injuries and polio as kid, he returned to play football, run track and complete over 60 marathons.
The list of people he has taught and mentored who have become highly accomplished is so vast that his scope of influence easily scales through them to impact millions.
Mostly though, it's his own individual approach I respect and admire, a true leader of 1, conquer of adversity and setbacks, dedicated and persistent athlete, innovative and forward thinking intellect, confident and calm leadership, enthusiastic spirit, and a wonderfully gracious, respectful and encouraging human being.
Appreciate to cross paths and put minds together. Great day!
