***** Did Our Grandparents Get Eating Right, Right? ***** Our grandparents ate predominantly starchy meals, yet managed to stay fit back then. Why doesn’t that work for us now?
If we want to eat like them, then we have to live like them. → Forget food delivery or fast food.
They made all food on a budget, then split that amongst too many people. No seconds, even if they were hungry. → Forget making an excuse to avoid exercise.
They walked or bicycled everywhere they needed to go. Then did the thing they needed to do. And then walked or bicycled back. → Forget eating processed, calorie dense food products.
They ate local, seasonal and good quality grains, pulses, vegetables and fruits to sustain good health. → Forget treating stress with sugar and snacking between meals.
They dissolved stress naturally, by connecting with loved ones or exerting themselves outdoors with friends. No device-therapy! → Forget subsisting on insufficient sleep.
Few interferences came in the way of their sleep schedule. → Forget leading a sedentary life in a ‘century of convenience’ .
They maintained a very active lifestyle where nothing was convenient, such that activities of daily living justified their starch intake.
