A 1996 Gol GTi (8v). Along with the Gol's second generation , VW continued with the Gol "GTi", one of the most advanced brazilian cars of its time, being the first national car to be fuel injected (in 1989) although the Gols exported to the US as the "Fox" were also equipped with it. The real star was the Gol GTi 16v, which received engine parts from the european Golf, but that's not the case with this Gol, which maintaned rhe regular 8 valve 2 liter engine, developing around 109 hp. Brazil had and still has very few sports cars, the GTi being considered one of the most remarkable model, even considering that, compared to the rest of the world, it would just be an adequate powertrain for a hatchback car. 0-60 mph time was rated at 11 seconds, maxing at 115mph (185 km/h) being an aspiring hot hatchback. Most sports versions sold at the time were small european hatchbacks, such as the Escort XR3, Corsa GSi and the Uno turbo, to name a few. The 16v version Gol is a rare spot, so I intend to write about it on a different post.
