An image from an on-going personal project that I shared on @everydaybayarea.
I have been a contributor with this project that shares everyday images from the Bay Area in their instagram feed.
This week I am taking over their feed to share images from this project, “In search of God in the Bay Area”. Please check out/follow the feed to see the work shared by several talented photographers in the area.
A conversation about children and religion sparked Alpana’s curiosity to learn more about her own religious identity. Growing up in fairly devout Hindu household, she questioned her religious identity by exploring atheism, buddhism and eventually settled on being human. This inspired her to explore how people in the South Asian communities in the Bay Area create their connection to God and religion. As an Indian immigrant, she struggled with fitting into a world that was different from the one she left behind. Through her photographs, she hopes to humanize those that look different, breaking down barriers and allowing people to get a glimpse into others’ lives.
