Tamina Moana-Marie Reiher Snuka made her sebut in 2010 with her twin cousins, Jimmy and Jey Uso. On February 18, 2017, Snuka made her in-ring return in a tag-team match at a SmackDownlive event, where she and Natalya scored a victory over Alexa Bliss and Carmella. She made her televised return on the April 11 episode of SmackDown Live, where she was established as a member of the SmackDown brand as part of the "Superstar Shake Up". On the April 25 episode of SmackDown, Tamina re-established herself as a heel after she interfered in an SmackDown Women's Championship match between Charlotte Flair and Naomi alongside Carmella and Natalya. Dubbing themselves "The Welcoming Committee" along with James Ellsworth, a contract signing was held on the May 16 episode of SmackDown to accord a six-woman tag team match at Backlash which also included Becky Lynch. At the event on May 21, Tamina made her televised in-ring return with her team resulting victorious. After a 5-Way elimination match ended in no contest following a brawl between all competitors on the May 30 episode of SmackDown, SmackDown's Commissioner, Shane McMahon, announced the first ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match at the titular Money in the Bank pay-per-view event on June 18 with Snuka competing on it. At the event, Snuka failed to capture the briefcase and Carmella resulted victorious after being helped by Ellsworth. On the June 20 episode of SmackDown, SmackDown's general manager, Daniel Bryan, dispossession the briefcase from Carmella and announced a rematch programmed for the June 27 episode.
