-------- "A body immersed in a fluid is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the it" - Archimedes Thanks to this principle, French inventor Henri Geffard designed the first motor airship which was then publically presente exactly on September 24th, 165 years ago! The airship was a balloon (inflated with hydrogen) with an elongated shape of 2500 cubic metres. It was driven by the engine of 3 horsepower (CV) and it flew over 27km from Paris to Trappes. Although numerous accidents occured, this invention replaced hot-air balloons. Their commercial use has been very short, from 1929 to 1937, day of Hindendurg's tragedy. However, the existence of airships still has a value: toda they're used as civil or touristic transport. #airship #giffard #anniversary #history #science #flyover #gssiaq #paris #dirigibile
