As I stand and peer over my balcony at the street below, I remember how things have changed.
Recently, I returned to a past childhood neighbourhood, where the same London Plane trees I grew with, hung like heavy shades during 36 degree heat. The most enlivening time to be out there, was during Fall or Autumn, the mint crisp air and crunchy leaves underfoot scattered in a beautiful mess. Megan and I were stopped by Messenger Post to pose front page whilst throwing the leaves in the air to mark the first moments of Autumn and the spontaneous joy of playing as small children.
Reminiscing this, I remember rollerblading and bike riding down the streets and the random encounters and adventures, I made in a world where my motives weren't questioned for striking up a conversation with a random stranger at the park, or knocking on my neighbour's door, and welcoming them in return. As I stood on my balcony, I come to the realisation that even looking at the stranger next to me, and or striking up that random conversation is a hesitation. As an adult, you're not meant to talk to those who you don't already know. When you do, they misconstrue your actions as trying to "pick them up" or act in defence, for what they don't know, because we've learnt to fear.
Beyond that sinking feeling, I still remember that even though things keep changing, I still can walk down those paths I once did, and whilst not everything is exactly the same, I can still remember the wondrous beauty of many things, and those endless days of wandering contrasted with the beauty of new paths I've not yet discovered. The unknown: whilst choking and frightening, is also mysterious with many things unidentified. It's dejavu eclipsed with an intensity of detail not yet come to terms with. Perhaps, there's a future being carved in every moment forward. Let's not look too far backwards and seek possibilities instead. #fall #autumn #change #uncertainties #reminisce #childhood #throwback #reality #possibilities #pathslesstravelled #creative #forward #fear #courage #life #embracingtheunknown
