Like Minds Like Mine, Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki Short Film– Every Seashell Has a Story.
Launched Thursday 7th December 2017, Whangamata, New Zealand.
To often do we see people with mental illness excluded from accommodation, employment, and having the right to belong and included in their communities. We see and hear the stories day by day of the unfair treatment people with experience of mental illness face.
We want to create inclusion communities, where Everyone Matters, Where Everyone has the same rights, and treated fairly, where we all have equal opportunities. Ignoring, avoiding and excluding people is discrimination and not the communities we want to be associated and live in. Mental Health can affect anyone of us at any time. People with experience of mental illness and distress are just like you and me, what you do has the ability to positively or negatively affect someone’s recovery.
We’re proud as New Zealanders to have embraced difference in so many ways yet people are still discriminated against every day because of prejudice and stereotypes about mental illness. So it’s up to all of us to make a change for better. Some will ask how? This is how
Be fair, Be open, be kind and Be Inclusive. #everyonematters
