A fine piece of Hawks cut glass which has been a part of my family for generations. These glass cutters were both craftsmen and artists. Amazing. #cutglass#myfamily
Like most families who have kept their treasures, our cupboards are filled with wonderful Hawks cut glass of the finest quality. I treasure pieces my family has enjoyed for generations. #cutglass#fineglass#family#familytreasures
How often do you look at hanging light fixtures from the bottom up? 🙃
When you need 600ml of rhinestones... I'm a magpie, not a minimalist, and there are some bits and bobs that I'm drawn to no matter how extraneous to my life they seem. I might only wear a handful of rhinestones a few days a year, but piled haphazardly in a beaker for the other 365 makes them a single unit of pleasure that glints and sparkles on top of a pile of books in my bookcase no matter the season.
been restoring a polishing lathe of my own, so it only seems fitting to share a video from the 1974 Seneca factory in West Virginia showing glass cutters making patterned and floral cut glass - and a voiceover talking about the art form and the time it takes to learn it. floral is especially hard, you can watch him do all those curvy freehand cuts and make it look real easy. the stones they use are quarried in nearby Ohio and shaped in the factory (founded 1891). nice bit of footage, and perspective. takes a long time to get good at something! The full video is on YouTube (Seneca Glass) and is a documentary funded by the Library of Congress in order to preserve American industrial heritage. #cutglass#glasscutting#cutcrystal#glass#westvirginia#senecaglass#glassart#craft#industry#education#handmade#skill#trades#patience#practicemakesperfect
