Rotational kettlebell work today. All three exercises have an element of rotation. The clean and snatch has me dropping the shoulder and going into thoracic rotation and powering up into a split stance. The 180 switch swings is done with an overhead switch of hands traveling in a straight path. Love the versatility of a kettlebell. Always remember to go step by step. Get your basics strong and then implement all the variations under the sun! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Cluster sets (including short pauses between reps) are getting a bit of airtime at the minute. The idea is that each set will be completed at a higher average velocity, and therefore a higher average power output. I decided to track this using my @trainwithpush band. The top chart in each image is a straight 3x8 set of trap bar deadlift @ 65%1RM, whereas the bottom chart is a cluster set (3 sets where I performed 2 reps, had a 5 second pause, performed 2 more reps etc until I'd done a 'set' of 8 reps). Cluster sets resulted in +5% mean set velocity and +8% mean set power. Definitely worth considering when looking at any power phase training of athletes. When we train acceleration and change of direction we go full speed, once we get technique down. Training to get faster and conditioning work are two completely separate foci. We want full speed all the way through and adequate rest before the next rep. @jakemareno2 is a great example of pushing all the way through. Depending on the relative contributions between either velocity or force, the strength qualities were differentiated based on velocities. As you can see from the table on the right (in the book) the pivoting point between velocity and load regarding power contribution occurs at the velocity that corresponds to optimal power. . . By breaking down the qualities this way, we can get a little clearer picture of what variables are actually contributing to the movement outcome. . The video above is occurring somewhere in the speed-strength realm, while in one of my previous videos of a similar movement, you can tell it was in the strength-speed realm. . . Why do these qualities matter? Because these qualities are developed by different contributions between load and velocity, different core qualities may be emphasized. Strength-speed may hinge more on the athletes late stage rate of force development and maximal strength compared to a speed-movement, where early stage rate of force development and late stage rate of force development may play more of a role, while maximal strength doesn't has less of a role. . . This is an example of some of the topics covered in the book. We also have other workout examples in the book to give an idea as to how some of these methods can be used.
