Day 5 - Favorite drama movie (Gran Torino)
Okay, guess this is kinda like with the game challenge. Gran Torino probably isn't really my favorite drama, but I saw it last week, fucking loved it and just wanted an excuse to talk about it. Eastwood is an amazing man in so many ways. He had already proven himself as a director with things like Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, but Gran Torino takes the cake as my favorite movie of his. On many levels, I almost feel like the movie shouldn't work. It has some rather drastic changes in tone and some of the performances are... Less than stellar. Yet, the movie just really works. Even the changes in tone. It's hilarious when it needs to be, but also really hits some emotional notes quite well. Eastwood gives a fucking masterful performance, too. Many have compared him to an older Dirty Harry and... Yeah, that's basically what he is, just more racist. He nails it though, makes an old, grumpy, racist character, kinda sympathetic and surprisingly funny, lot of the times. I don't know, this just film just stuck out to me, it's good.
