Presenting another novelist Nag Mani, from DTU batch of 2016, who has already published a novel The Green Room, which has been declared as a bestseller (horror) and has been persistently in the top 10 on Amazon India. He’s also working on another novel : Devi.
Q. What prompted you to pursue literature?
A. I have been into writing since I was young and cute. I loved reading comics and wrote my own stories. Nothing that good, just a child misusing paper and pencil. Growing up in an elite boarding school, I was given the opportunity to hone my writing skills. I also came across many mature and interesting books which reshaped my creative thinking.
I always wanted to write a book, and finally, somewhere near the end of my first year in college, I found a story worth telling.
Q. What is the future of literature in India, according to you? Are there any trends and patterns currently you'd like to comment upon?
A. India has a rich heritage and a diverse culture. There has been a sudden, and much awaited, growth in the adaptation of Indian mythologies in the main-stream literature. Ancient stories are being re-told and heroes rediscovered. I expect that in near future we will see more of such stories, and not just of the mythologies and epics we already know, but also of gods and demons who were lost in time. And more so, fictions that are based on our glorious past.
Q. Can you tell us about the novel/s you've written?
A. My first novel, The Green Room, was published in 2015, when I was in 4th year. The book had been declared a Bestseller (Horror) on Amazon.in, and has persistently maintained a rank in top ten.
I am also working on another novel, tentatively titled Devi. This story is about a woman who had to shift with her husband to a remote village near Nepal border. I expect this book to be out in the first half of next year.
